Responding to the COVID-19 Crisis & How it Affects your Business

We are here to help you through this unprecedented crisis.  There are important developments that all North Carolina businesses must be aware of.

How does the Stay at Home Order affect your business?

First, if your business operates in and around Charlotte, then you should review the Stay at Home Order issued on March 24, 2020.  Notably, the order states that individuals may leave their residence to provide work necessary to provide “Essential Infrastructure” which includes construction work, and specifically housing construction.  We have carefully reviewed the Order and are available to answer your questions regarding how the Order impacts you and your business.

What is covered under your insurance policy?

Second, you must review your insurance policies now to determine whether or not you have coverage for losses resulting from a business shut down or other losses related to the coronavirus. If you do not promptly file a claim, the insurance company can deny the claim later if they were not given timely notice and you will lose any future right to recover under the policy.  Insurance policies contain legal terms and many definitions that are difficult to understand but we can analyze your policies and review the governing law.  Even if coverage is not immediately available, new legislative developments may also change whether coverage is available for your pending claim in the near future.  If a claim is available, we can also assist you in filing the required “proof of loss” to support your claim.
