Annual South End Shuffle 5K & Mile Run
10th Annual South End Shuffle 5K & Mile Run
The South End Shuffle 5K & Mile Run takes place each year in September in the heart of South End Charlotte. Started in 2014 by Managing Attorney Ron Skufca, this event consists of a 5K and a 1 Mile Run in a festival-like atmosphere bringing together merchants, local businesses, neighbors, and friends in our vibrant South End community. The South End Shuffle has grown from about 200 participants in the first two years to over 1000 participants during the last few years! Presented by Skufca Law, Beacon Partners, and Wooden Robot Brewery, the South End Shuffle 5K & Mile Run ends with a fun post-race party with food, beverages, and music.
Thank you to Stephen Dey Signature Portraits for the photos. Stay tuned for more!
Why We Run
We Run for the Fight to End Melanoma Cancer
Ron Skufca started the race as a way to give back to the local South End community and support a charity close to our hearts: The Purple Promise Foundation to End Melanoma. The Purple Promise Foundation is a non-profit public charity whose primary mission is to raise awareness for the prevention of all forms of skin cancer, recognize and benefit melanoma cancer researchers, and support patients and caregivers while leading the efforts to find better treatment and a cure for melanoma cancer.
Longtime friends of Ron Skufca and the creators of the Purple Promise Foundation, David and Donna Hodgkins, lost their daughter Jessica to melanoma cancer in 2008. We run to raise awareness and funds for the fight to end melanoma and to honor Jessica and her story.
Why We Run
We Run to Support our Community
West Blvd Ministry is a non-profit organization serving the spiritual and physical needs of the families and communities within the West Blvd corridor to the glory of Jesus Christ. Whether it's mentoring programs, food distribution, neighborhood cookouts, bible study bingo or our monthly BBQ For Blue to celebrate and encourage the CMPD Westover Division we look to create a space that fosters healthy and lasting relationships.
Read more about West Blvd Ministry and their mission to serve the community right here in our neighborhood who often lack the basic necessities of everyday life. WBM aims to develop real and lasting relationships where service, sacrifice and love are offered and received. It is their desire to see a true revival take place in this corridor of Charlotte, where resources are no longer scarce, hope is realized through both physical and spiritual means, and abundant life floods each home and neighborhood.
